Seeing the similarity between the Tower of Valni’s architecture and Nepalese architecture made me think quite a bit about the potential ties between Frelia and Caer Pelyn. Compounding Valni’s ties to Caer Pelyn is Valni’s interior, which is adorned with dragon imagery and relates to the story of the first war against the Demon King. Caer Pelyn prides itself in holding fast to the “true story” of the war, refusing to overlook the dragonkins’ involvement in the war.
So if there is indeed a tie between Frelia’s history and Caer Pelyn, it seems likely that the founders of Caer Pelyn left Frelia after some fundamental disagreement. More likely than not, it was over whether they should erase the manakete’s involvement from the war or worship them as mankind’s savior.
“But Zebra, why Nada Kuya? Nothing says she was around at the same time as the Five Heroes.”
It’s true that there isn’t much in the text to directly support this. She might not be one of the Five. Maybe she served under the actual hero, or was a direct descendant; there’s no saying. But she was probably around during the time of the war. For proof, this is what Saleh tells Eirika about her choice of weapon:
And leading the charge against the invaders was Nada Kuya. She carried a narrow sword made from a fang gifted to her by the dragonkin. With her dragon blade in her hand, she drove Caer Pelyn’s enemies away.
“Gifted to her.” The dragon fang was not something she inherited; it was directly given to her by the dragons themselves. This suggests that a) they had great trust in her, and b) she was probably around when the manakete were more plentiful on Magvel; thus, before or during the war. Dragon fangs aren’t exactly something that’s handed out willy-nilly.
Furthermore, the description for Nada Kuya’s sword is the same as Falchion’s in other FE games. Her sword isn’t explicitly called Falchion, but the premise is the same: a sword crafted from the fang of a dragonkin, used to slay evil. Given that the Falchion is usually the most powerful weapon in the games they exist in, at least lore-wise, and usually only wielded by the hero, that Nada Kuya had such a weapon isn’t something to sneeze at.
